Plaqtiv+ Oral Wipes Offer Owners an Easy Alternative to Daily Toothbrushing

Animalcare has announced the addition of dental wipes to its recently launched Plaqtiv+® home dental care range. The biodegradable wipes feature the range’s patented Xpersiv™ technology, which captures minerals and inhibits biofilm maturation to reduce the formation of calculus – a key contributor to periodontal disease.

Available in one large size suitable for all dog and cat breeds, the vanilla-scented wipes deliver tartar reduction with some mechanical action without the difficulties that some owners experience when using a toothbrush. They offer owners a practical, ‘grab and go’ dental care option, which also helps them to grow more comfortable with handling their pets’ mouths before they progress to full toothbrushing.

Commenting on the launch, Animalcare Senior Brand Manager Eleanor Workman Wright said: “With periodontal disease so common in dogs and cats, supporting owners to help them start and maintain an oral health regime for their pet is essential.

“Toothbrushing is, of course, the Gold Standard but it must be done frequently to achieve a significant degree of efficacy. For many owners this is just not possible and, if they find it difficult, the risk is that they then give up and their pet’s oral health is neglected. One of the founding principles of the Plaqtiv+ range is to offer proven technology in multiple formats which can be used daily by owners as an alternative to toothbrushing, as part of a programme to build up to toothbrushing or within a multi-modal framework. Launching our new dental wipes is the latest step in achieving this goal.”

The Plaqtiv+® range already includes a gum spray, a malt-flavoured toothpaste and a flavourless water additive, which is the first in Europe to achieve the prestigious Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) approval – confirmation that it has delivered a significant reduction in calculus in two studies.

Veterinary teams are supported in offering the Plaqtiv+ range by a veterinary professional and owner facing website – www.dental.pet. The vet site offers a range of resources, including talk tracks to start discussions with clients about dental care and tools to help them recognise signs of dental pain. The pet owner site offers a wealth of information on the importance of dental health in pets and advice on establishing a dental care regime.

The Plaqtiv+® range joins the company’s existing enzymatic toothpaste, Orozyme® Oral Hygiene Gel, which can be applied to a cat or dog’s teeth to help prevent and remove plaque.
