Greenfield State Park will host a free New Hampshire State Parks First Day Hike Jan. 1 from noon to 3 p.m.

The hike is new for 2022, and participants can join park staff for a 1.2-mile hike on the Hogback Trail. It should take approximately 45 minutes to go around the pond. Walkers should keep an eye out for the wildlife in this area of the park, and there are benches to stop and rest.

Warm drinks and a snack will be served fireside in the parking lot. Dogs are welcome, but must be leashed at all times and owners are responsible for carrying out all pet waste.

Recommendations for hikers include checking the weather prior to heading out, dressing in layers appropriate for the winter weather and wearing appropriate footwear, making sure someone knows about the hike and a scheduled return time, carrying hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes, moving to the side of the trail to allow others to pass and packing water and a snack for during the hike.  

Greenfield State Park is at 954 Forest Road. Park in the main parking lot, which will host check-in from noon to 2 p.m.
