When footage of her reaction to the shooting of 20-year-old black Dant Wright in Minnesota earlier this year was played in court, someone saw Kim Porter wipe away tears.
On Wednesday, on the first day of the manslaughter trial in Hennepin County Court, the former Brooklyn Center police officer was emotional when he played unprecedented footage after the April 11 shooting.
Ms. Porter is a 26-year veteran police officer. She said she mistakenly thought that her gun was a Taser. A video taken from a camera carried by her colleague rookie police officer Anthony Luckey was shown in court on Wednesday and showed Ms. Porter crying hysterically after realizing she had shot Mr. Wright with a gun.
The video shows Ms. Porter crouching face down on the grass by the side of the road, crying and gasping.
When she was comforted by her colleagues, she kept yelling "I shot him" and "God."

Prosecutors said in their opening statement on Wednesday that the police officer violated her oath as a law enforcement officer and “betrayed the badge” when she shot and killed the black father.
The state argued that she had received years of training, including the risk of using the wrong weapon-she violated the training that day.
At the same time, the defense claimed that Ms. Porter was "working in humans" and made "mistakes" and tried to shift responsibility to Mr. Wright for not following the police officer's orders.
